Links to Love from Around the Web

By: Maralee McKee, Manners Mentor

Here’s our weekly Sunday collection of links to love from around the web. Enjoy!!!

  • Pinterest is up to something big that is going to make finding what we want or need in our daily life a whole lot easier! They’re rolling out a new Visual Discovery Tool for use on smartphones. The post explains it well. Please peruse it because this tool really is awesome in the true sense of the word! In a nutshell, you’ll be able to hold your phone up to any item, and Pinterest will pull up pins that compliment or complete the item. For instance, if you’re grocery shopping and hold your smartphone camera lens up to an acorn squash, recipes for it will pop up for you. Better still, you know that blouse in your closet that you haven’t been able to find anything to wear with? Point your lens, and up will come similar blouses (or the identical one if someone else has pinned it) with recommendations about what to wear with it and even links to buy those items. The uses are endless, and it’s going to make finding practical, functional things easier for everything from decorating our homes to knowing whether a particular plant is hard to care for before we buy it!

  • E-readers and tablets are becoming more and more popular. But do our brains have a preference for reading on paper over screens? And does reading on one or the other offer any advantages when it comes to learning and retaining what we read? Scientific American thinks so, and they share what they know in this post: “The Science of Paper Versus Screens.”

  • Speaking of architecture, there are over two million homes for sale in the US. Of those, only about 200 of them have earned a spot on The National Register of Historic Places. If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a home with a story of its own to tell, here are seven beautiful dream homes for sale.

Favorite Instagram Of The Week

Marc Holding Milo

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce Milo, the newest member of the McKee family! Our fluffy, playful, curious-minded little guy is eight weeks old and weighs in at about ten pounds. He’s a Golderian. His mother is a white-as-snow Siberian Husky, and his father is an American Golden Retriever. He’s going to be a big boy! And, yes, your eyes are not deceiving you; he has one blue eye and one brown eye. It’s a trait he inherited from his mother. Milo has been happily accepted into the family by his big sister, our eight-year-old Sheltie, Miss Lilly. And he owned Kent, Marc, Corbett, and me the moment we met!!!

Blessings on your week,

About Maralee McKee

Maralee McKee is the founder of Manners Mentor. With her best-friend style, sense of humor, and knack for updating etiquette to meet our modern sensibilities, she has been referred to as "Sandra Bullock meets Emily Post!" Maralee shows you how to become the best version of yourself. No fluff. No pretense. Just you at your authentic best! The person you were always meant to be! Maralee is a native and life-long resident of Orlando. Before entering the etiquette arena, she worked in management and ministry. She's proud to be Kent's wife and Marc and Corbet's mom. She hates laundry, and loves quality tea, London, and Savannah, Southern cooking, dressing up and dressing down, and Miss Lilly the Wonder Sheltie. You can find her picture if you scroll to the footer of this page. Isn't she the cutest dog ever?!!! PS: Because everyone always asks her, "What's your etiquette pet peeve?" It's people who talk on their phones in public restrooms. The person on the other end of the phone must wonder, "What's that noise. It sounds like....no, it couldn't be." Plus, everyone else in the bathroom is held hostage to a one-sided conversation usually shouted to try and cover up the noises. It would be comical if it weren't so...so....just plain wrong on many levels. ;)
